当接到一个国际长途电话（international long-distance call）时，一定要问明接线生哪种电话。当你听到：We have a collect call from ...时，千万不可随口回答Yes，因为这是一种请受话人付费的电话。如果你愿意接通电话，请说：We'll pay for the call。

Tip:

打电话到公司找人，一定要把要找的人的名字和职位说清楚。如果听不清对方的英语，则要有礼貌地请对方说慢一点：Would you please speak slowly, please?

B:Just a minute please.(Hold up, please.)Mr. Brown is on the line.(You are connected now.)

A:Thank you. Hello, Mr. Brown?

Tip:

用电话安排约会，寒暄过后可进入正题。在确定的时间的时候，要明确地说明某时间，如at one。此外，外国人喜欢在午餐时一边用餐一边轻松地谈生意（business lunch）。

B:I'm fine, thanks. I'd like to make an appointment to discuss our computer.

Tip:

在大公司里，一般都有接线生转接电话。当你听到：Would you please spell the name? 时，要将受话人的名字拼出来。如果名字很长，可要求接线生重复一遍，以免接错线。
