One of the most characteristic features of life in Amsterdam, aside from constant rain, is the bicycle. There are everywhere just like in China. However, most of them are somewhat stupid with black/brown/rust colour.New-looking bicycles are very rare. This seems to be mailnly attributable to the darker side of Amsterdam's bicycle culture: the bicycle thieves. Huge numbers of bikes are stolen verey year in all of the Netherlands. So most prople try to compromise by having a dependable, ugly bicycle that looks worse than it is, but has good locks. The locks here for bicks are those for motorcycles in China. Usually it will be more safe by using three locks. The lock sellers in Amsterdam must be making a killing. Many students here just buy a stolen-bike from the Junky. It is reported that there are estimates that around 900,000 bicycles a year are stloen. Is that unbelievable?
